Before The Edge, Mon 4 July

On the 4th of July 2016, the Southside Producers, supported by Beatfreeks, MAIA Creatives, The Old Rep and Arts Connect are bringing an evening of creativity and talent to the Old Rep Theatre. In one of the larger studios, we will be presenting to you a wide variety of some of the best young talent and passion that Birmingham has to offer. Ranging from spoken word artists to songwriters, from storytellers to solo and group dance acts, our performers will be covering real issues facing young people today.

The show commences at 4.30pm and will last two hours. The main focus of the afternoon is social change – we want to get you thinking, and talking, about issues that matter!

That’s why as well as performing artists, we will also have in play an instillation room or ‘creative room,’ filled with activities to get you involved, let you have your say and put your thoughts forward.
‘Before the Edge’ will be a preshow to the ‘On the Edge’ festival, The Broke ‘n’ Beat collective presented by 20 Stories High and Theatre Rites. Entry to this show is essential for entry to Before the Edge. Discounted entry to The Broke ‘n’ Beat collective will be provided to anyone who purchases a ticket for the preshow.

The location for the day will be The Old Rep theatre, Stage Door, Hinckley St, Birmingham, B54DY.

Who are Southside Producers?

Southside Producers are a group of passionate young people from Birmingham who curate, plan and run various events for young creatives.

Our previous event was to create a festival to launch Birmingham City Council's 'Year of the Arts for Young People' (YAY16), in partnership with the Old Rep Theatre, Beatfreeks and MAIA Creatives. On Friday 19th February 2016, Birmingham saw the city's arts organisations and creative individuals come together to celebrate what creative opportunities Birmingham has to offer and showcase Birmingham's greatest young talent.

The event ran from 2pm – 9pm, and ranged from stalls, workshops, panel discussions, open mics, open jams, networking opportunities and a showcase. During the event, Southside Producers encouraged the public to create, participate and experience, in order for them to fulfil the aims of ‘Year of the Arts for Young People’. All aims were met, and the event was a success!

We have a lot of exciting events coming up including; a pre and post show event to the Broke 'n' Beat Collective, called 'Before The Edge' part of the On The Edge festival tour, and a cultural music and food evening called 'Music Menu'. Watch this space to find out more!

Southside Producers is delivered by The Old Rep and Beatfreeks, in association with MAIA Creatives. The group meet every Wednesday at the Old Rep Theatre.
